Deck the halls with….lots of Christmas book club books!

I’m one of those people who looks forward to Christmas all year. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy the other seasons. But Christmas is truly so special.

While it’s such a busy and chaotic time of year, it’s really is so wonderful too. So why not select a holiday themed book club book to read? There are so many holiday books to choose from. So if your book club is looking for a Christmas read, you’ve come to the right place!

In addition to picking a holiday read, there are so many fun holiday book club ideas. You can have a white elephant/secret Santa gift game that is all book themed, have a cookie exchange party during the book club meeting, make festive drinks, and more. It will certainly help end the year on a fun note.

Now let’s chat books! This Christmas book club list features a combination of three new releases and two previously released titles. If you’re looking for even more new holiday releases, check out my 2024 list here.

New Releases

The Christmas Countdown by Holly Cassidy

Advent calendars are so popular now, it even extends to other holidays! If you’re a fan of those (like I am), your book club should absolutely consider reading The Christmas Countdown by Holly Cassidy.

This holiday book draws inspiration from the ever-popular Advent calendars of late in the charming tale of Callie, a recently heartbroken woman who is tasked by her sister to complete a series of challenges in the lead up to Christmas that will reignite her holiday spirit. As Callie makes her way through baking bonanzas, sledding contests, puppy playdates and more, she’ll not only begin to find her way back to herself, but she may just open her heart to the possibility of new love, too.

A truly festive read with plenty of sparkling romantic chemistry, helps make The Christmas Countdown a must-read.

If you enjoy the Knives Out Series and thought, hmm, it could use a holiday-rom twist—check out The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year by Ally Carter. In this rivals-to-lovers romance mystery, Maggie is the queen of cozy mysteries while Ethan, is a big-time thriller guy. While staying at an English estate for Christmas party, the two try to avoid each other, until the most famous writer in the world, their host, goes missing.

Now the two rivals have to band together to find the author.

The premise is so entertaining and I love how it combines a mystery with classic romcom tropes. This will be a fun one for your book club.

One Big Happy Family by Susan Mallery

Bestselling author Susan Mallery is an expert at crafting fiction centered on families. And of course, Christmas brings about all kinds of family dynamics! In One Big Happy Family, a mother is hoping to skip a big Christmas this year, as she can have a quiet one with her new boyfriend. But the catch is not only is he much younger, she’s also kept him a secret from her adult children.

However, her adult kids beg for a Christmas together in the memory of their late father, and while she agrees, soon the guest list goes larger and larger.

This one is ideal for those who enjoy reading about imperfect families who discover that letting go of the past, will allow them to open their hearts to heal.

Older Titles

Comfort and Joy by Kristin Hannah

Comfort and Joy by Kristin Hannah is my favorite holiday book (so far). Every year, I go back to this lovely read about a woman who gets a second chance at happiness.

After experiencing the ultimate betrayal and loss, on a magical Christmas Eve, a woman name Joy must find the courage to believe in a love—and a family—that can’t possibly exist, and go in search of what she wants . . . and the new life only she can find.

Comfort & Joy is the ideal holiday read. You have the setting during Christmastime and it’s not an after thought, it’s very much part of the novel. But there’s a bit of magic in there too, which is a nice touch. I love it and highly recommend.

Bright Lights, Big Christmas by Mary Kay Andrews

Mary Kay Andrews is known for her beach reads and also festive holiday stories. In Bright Lights, Big Christmas, her novella is a Christmas-themed story full of second chances, and even features a mystery too.

It’s festive, charming and sweet. Plus, this is a shorter read so not a big commitment in an already busy time period.

Happy reading and happy holidays!
