My name is Heather Caliendo. I spent more than 20 years working as a journalist and media professional, and somewhere along the way my habit of asking the next question turned into a second calling: writing reviews and discussion questions.

Sure, it seems simple. But anyone who has ever walked into a book club knows the scramble right before the meeting starts. And that’s why I started this site: so you’re always prepared, and the conversation is original and engaging.

Every review I post is an honest take, and every set of discussion questions is written with deep thought and analysis, so we can get into the themes, characters, and plot points that actually get the group talking, or to think through on your own.

About Book Club Chat

I launched Book Club Chat in 2018 as a getaway hobby. Eight years later, more than 2.5 million readers a year stop by for reviews, book club questions, monthly picks, and author Q&As. It’s been an amazing journey and it’s incredible to say this is my full-time job now.

And while others gatekeep with paid subscriptions and email sign-ups, I always want my content to be free and accessible to everyone. Book Club Chat is part of the Mediavine ad network and that’s how I am able to keep this site 100% free. I do have a newsletter, but it’s completely optional (I’d love for you to join though ❤️).

Beyond Books

I live in beautiful Carlsbad, CA with my husband and son. When I’m not reading, I’m always planning adventures with my family and trying to sneak in a Disneyland trip. I’m usually drinking an oat milk latte from Dreamwave, Revolution Roasters, or Steady State.
