The Christmas Sisters by Sarah Morgan is about a family coming together at Christmas. While the mom of the bunch hopes for a perfect Christmas, everyone soon learns there’s no such thing.
The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah is a captivating story about survival. Her writing will draw you in immediately and you won’t be able to put it down. I couldn’t!
Seven Days of Us by Francesca Hornak is a book about a dysfunctional family forced to spend seven days together during the holidays. Needless to say, there’s plenty of drama between the family members in this one!
Watching You by Lisa Jewell is a creepy thriller that will make you feel genuine chills.
Family Trust by Kathy Wang is about a wealthy Chinese-American family coming to terms with the patriarch’s pancreatic cancer diagnosis. It deals heavily with wealth—both having it and not having it, immigrant parents and their American-born children and some relationship drama. There’s also comedic moments, too.
The Dinner List by Rebecca Serle is a compelling story about love, heartbreak, forgiveness—with a little magic, too.
Forks, Knives, and Spoons by Leah DeCesare is a charming coming-of-age story about love and growth.
A Spark of Light by Jodi Picoult is a vivid story about sacrifice, pain and love. While she’s a master at crafting stories, this is not an easy read but it’s an important one. Don’t let this one pass you by.
The Air You Breathe by Frances de Pontes Peebles is a moving tale of a friendship that is as rich and complex as the samba itself. A story full of love and tragedy, it’s about two girls achieving their dreams and learning it doesn’t guarantee happiness.
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens is a beautifully-written novel that will stay with you long after you finish the last page. Set in coastal marshes of North Carolina, the story is part coming-of-age tale, a murder-mystery, romance with some courtroom drama mixed in.
Editorial Note – I was given a copy of Kate Atkinson’s Transcription in return for a review. Transcription by Kate Atkinson is a British spy novel full of unexpected twists and turns. It’s a historical fiction story with some mystery and even humor, too. I really enjoyed it.
Less by Andrew Sean Greer is an absolute delight. One of my favorite books of this year. It’s a must-read!
An American Marriage by Tayari Jones is a story about race, justice, love and heartbreak. Jones crafted a compelling and unique narrative in this beautiful written novel. An American Marriage needs to be on the top of your TBR list.
