Love to Hate You is a modern twist on You’ve Got Mail starring an indie bookstore owner looking for true love and a cynical CEO who may ruin everything.
Let’s get to know Marina as she talks favorite books, story inspirations, her TBR and more!
What are some of your favorite novels?
Honor’s Splendour by Julie Garwood
The entire Lucky Harbor series by Jill Shalvis
Book Lovers by Emily Henry
When did you know you wanted to become an author?
I had just finished reading Falling for Mr. Dark and Dangerous by the fabulous Donna Alward, and I turned to my husband and said, “I want to make people feel the way I feel right now.” The next day, I started my first romance, Promise Me You.
Where do you draw your story inspirations from?
From everyday life. For sure my family and friends. In fact, Summer’s big and nosey Italian family in Love to Hate You is based on my husband’s family. They’re loud and obnoxious but they fight as fiercely as they love.
What can readers expect from Love to Hate You?
One spicy heroine who is a hopeless romantic, one grumpy business tycoon, a multi-generational family who love to play pranks, a lot of fun antics and a romcom full of all the feels. At its core, LOVE TO HATE YOU is a tender love story about an independent bookstore owner who is looking for true love and a cynical big-chain CEO who launches a bookstore-war that may challenge everything they believe about love.
What was your favorite part or chapter to write?
My favorite chapter was the skinny-dipping scene. It was fun and sexy, but there were so many tender moments between Summer and Wes. It was the first time they began seeing the other through a different filter.
What are you currently reading and what’s on your TBR (to be read) list?
I’m reading Emily Henry’s Happy Place and am dying to read Jill Shalvis’s upcoming book, He Falls First.
