The first pick for Heather’s Book Club is Mad Mabel by Sally Hepworth!

Ever since I started Book Club Chat in 2018, I’ve been asked if the site is also a book club. However, I kept the focus on content only. I wasn’t quite ready to also launch a book club at the same time.

But I’ve always had the idea to start my own book club in the future. Well, now the site is rolling and receiving 3 million visitors a year.

So the time has arrived: my book club launches in January 2027!

Mad Mabel

It was a fun process choosing the first read! I want it to be something that will, of course, generate a ton of discussion. I also wanted to choose a book that has been published for several months so it’s more available at libraries and such.

This is when I landed on Mad Mabel by Sally Hepworth.

When Mad Mabel was released, I expected it to be a huge success right out of the gate, but it took time. However, over the past couple of months, it’s really picked up steam. I’m glad because it’s a very entertaining (and original) story! And because there’s so much to discuss about the story, I knew it would be the perfect first pick for Book Club Chat’s inaugural book club selection.
