- After years of estrangement, Kate and Blaire are brought together through tragedy. Right away, they pick off where they left off. Why do you think they were able to come together again so quickly? Was it because part of it from Blaire’s end was an act?
- The chapters alternate between Kate and Blaire’s perspectives. Why was it important for us to read both their perspectives? How did it help build tension but also reveal more about each character?
- Why do you think Blaire and Simon could never get along? Let’s talk a bit more about Simon. What did you think about him? Was he being honest about not having an affair with Sabrina?
- Let’s list all the people we thought could be the murderer and threatening Kate. Was there any point you suspected Kate herself? Were you shocked when it was Georgina who murdered Lily or did you see it coming?
- When did you start to suspect that Blaire wasn’t who she seemed? Did you think that she was the murderer all along? Did you ever think that she was the one sending those messages and disturbing acts of violence to Kate?
- We eventually find out that Blaire suffers from a severe personality disorder and has a tainted perception of reality. Let’s talk about why Blaire felt wronged by Kate. In the end, it sounds like Kate feels like she played a part in Blaire’s descent into madness. Do you agree with her? Would you have visited Blaire if you were Kate?
- Is Blaire the villain of this story in your eyes? Why or why not? If not, who is the villain?
- Why do you think Lily didn’t reveal that she was Blaire’s mother earlier? How might have the story played out differently if she had?
- Were there any other big surprises or reveals that stuck out to you?
- What happens next for Kate and Simon? Do you think they’ll stay in Baltimore or will they eventually move away?
- If this book was made into a movie or TV series, who would you cast for the lead roles? Let’s cast Kate, Blaire, Lily, Simon, Selby, Georgina, Anderson and Sabrina.
