  1. Are you a fan of Jane Austen? If so, what’s your favorite Jane Austen book? Why do you think her books have such a lasting impact and influence?
  2. If you’re not a fan of Jane Austen books, or haven’t read them, did that impact the story for you in any way?
  3. The characters we follow include: Dr. Gray, Adeline, Mimi, Andrew, Frances, Evie, Adam and Yardley. Which storyline and characters were you most engaged with? Which ones the least?
  4. Each character in this novel has a favorite Jane Austen story and character. What did you think about how they discussed Jane Austen books in this story? Why do you think these characters were so drawn to her stories?
  5. Much of this novel centered around the concept of grief with these characters being bonded by sorrow. A key example of this is the relationship with Dr. Gray and Adeline who have both experienced unimaginable loss. Early on in the book, they both discuss their favorite Jane Austen stories as they feel a connection through it. Let’s talk about their slow burn relationship.
  6. Why do you think it was important for these characters to start the Jane Austen Society?
  7. What did you think about Mimi’s Hollywood storyline? Why do you think the author decided to include an American actress in the story?
  8. Frances and Andrew were in love when they were young but her father got in the way of their relationship. But they never moved on from that. Let’s first talk about Frances’ complicated relationship with her father and then her late blossom romance with Andrew.
  9. What did you think about the ending?
  10. What were some of the key themes that you picked up on in this story?
  11. Would you ever want to visit the Jane Austen Museum in Chawton, England?
